The Sciences Sing A Lullabye by Albert Goldbarth
Physics says: go to sleep. Of course you’re tired. Every atom in you has been dancing the shimmy in silver shoes nonstop from mitosis to now. Quit tapping your feet. They’ll dance inside themselves without you. Go to sleep. Geology says: it will be all right. Slow inch by inch America is giving itself to the ocean. Go to sleep. Let darkness lap at your sides. Give darkness an inch. You...

Book Meme Day 11 - A book you hated
a: A Novel by Andy Warhol A stands for alienation. This book alienated me. Sure Andy Warhol was a genius but was it even necessary for him to mess up with the traditional prose to prove his point? The entire novel (I don’t know why this qualified as a novel) was close to being undecipherable. Post-modern kung post-modern, but didn’t like this one bit.

Ordeal by Nina Cassian
I promise to make you more alive than you’ve ever been.  For the first time you’ll see your pores opening  like the gills of a fish and you’ll hear  the noise of blood in galleries  and feel light gliding on your corneas  like the dragging of a dress across the floor.  For the first time, you’ll note gravity’s prick  like a thorn in your heal,  and your shoulder...

Apprentice yourself. →
This is your genius: your own profound desire to write. Your love of words and language, your attempt to get to what poet Donald Hall called “the unsayable said.” If you are meant to be a writer, you will serve your genius as well as you can. If not, you’ll find your genius elsewhere. You may still love to write, but it won’t be the main thing you serve. Forget wondering, am I good enough? Can I...

Day 09 - A book you thought you...
White Fang by Jack London. (Okay, also The Call of the Wild by the same author) The story’s written from the POV of the animal; so I thought it was one big bore. BUT NO. I enjoyed this book so much. Very beautifully written, thought-provoking, rich in details, heartwarming. Jack London whipped up a very sympathetic canine character :)

Open Letter to Eros by Simone Muench
I want a love that is imprecise, one that sprawls over the bed, spills out windows, disrupting churchgoers as they stroll across the green glow of mowed lawns. I want a love that commandeers the world, a bone- clanking, hydrant-splashing, dog- salivating  affair. The ravaged and the ravenous — those lycanthropes of lust. No  candy hearts or delicacies of language. Do not ask me to be demure, clean...

This poem. This poem is perfect for the New Year.
Good Girl Kim Addonizio Look at you, sitting there being good. After two years you’re still dying for a cigarette. And not drinking on weekdays, who thought that one up? Don’t you want to run to the corner right now for a fifth of vodka and have it with cranberry juice and a nice lemon slice, wouldn’t the backyard that you’re so sick of staring out into look...

Book Meme Day 8: Most Overrated Book
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. Sigh. I had so much hope for this book. It was supposed to be awesome, I was expecting to be majorly blown away. ALAS. Okay, the first few chapters were not so bad. After all, Dave Eggers wrote about the most tragic experience one could ever find himself in: your parents dying a month apart from each other. That’s powerful...
